"One must be a nomad, passing through ideas as one passes through countries and cities. The landscape of ideas, beliefs and concepts is too varied and exciting for us to hunker down in one place, believing that nothing of importance exists beyond our own horizon."
- Surrealist painter Francis Picabia
Along with the above quotation, I also think of the old cliché cautioning against an over-reliance on theory, "the map is not the country."

There are many very worthwhile books on all these topics. These are just some of my current or enduring favorites, and perhaps a good place for you to start if you want to do some reading. Subjects are listed alphabetically.

The study found that almost 90 percent of the psychologists polled in the study had recommended self-help books in their practice, but only a third had used patient autobiographies. However, almost all of those who recommended autobiographies found them "somewhat" to "very" helpful in giving their patients strategies, insight and hope for recovery.
